My Internship Experience at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas — An Insider Account

I interned at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Mumbai during my 4th year of BA LLB. Here is an honest account of what the experience was like and what I learned.

The Work: I was placed in the M&A team. My typical day involved reviewing transaction documents, preparing comparative analyses of deal structures, researching regulatory approvals required for a specific sector acquisition, and attending calls with client representatives. The hours were long — 9 AM to 8 PM on most days, occasionally later.

The Learning Curve: Week 1 was overwhelming. The speed of transactions, the volume of documents, and the precision required all took adjustment. By Week 2, I had found my rhythm. By Week 4, I was drafting first-cut comments on NDAs and term sheets independently.

The Culture: CAM is professional and demanding. The partners are accessible but expect you to come prepared. Associates are helpful if you show initiative. Do not wait to be given work — ask for it.

What I Wish I Knew Before: I wish I had revised SEBI takeover regulations and Companies Act merger provisions before joining. Half my confusion in Week 1 was avoidable.

Would I Recommend It: Absolutely. If you want a career in corporate law, a Tier-1 internship reframes your entire understanding of what legal practice looks like at scale.
